The Meridian Way Parkland is situated to the north of Meridian Way and east of the M1 adjacent to Thorpe Astley. Once the New Lubbesthorpe development and Meridian Way Bridge over the M1 was complete, the land was to be landscaped and a new area of parkland created. Moore Earthwork were delighted to have won the work to create this amazing space for the Trustees of the Drummond Estate.

Earthworks

The initial work involved moving almost 50,000 m3 of earth to raise the area by approximately 10m. We carried out the CBR Testing at formation level, chemical testing of the soils at the donor site and regular compaction testing on the new site to ensure all the engineering specifications were met.

We installed land drainage and ditches, headwalls and outfalls across the site and created attenuation Ponds to manage the rainwater in a natural and sustainable way across the parkland.

Landscaping

We planted 12500 trees, shrubs and woodland over 21000 square meters creating flowering meadows and Butterfly Banks. We undertook a process of power harrowing, stone burying, drilling and rolling before seeding to create these stunning areas of natural beauty.

Hard Landscaping

We also created over 1500m2 of Tarmac and Compacted Golden Amber footpaths around the Parkland, completing this amazing space with fencing, benches, street furniture, street lighting, and a dog exercising area, delivering a wonderful parkland area to be enjoyed by the local community.
